The pupils of SJKC Bukit Tinggi, Bentong, Pahang. Had an eventful English Day on Oct 11. It was a day full of actions, songs, rhymes and games as the fun elements to learn English. The Year 6 pupils act as Master of Ceremony, conducting the action song competition.  The kids from preschool class to big brothers & sisters in year 6 perform on stage with their interesting songs. These bunch of rural kids work hard to memorize long lyrics for songs such as “We Are The World” and “ I’ve been working on the railroad.”

Headmaster Mr. Thum Veng Keng reckons that listening skills are vital in Language acquisition. Therefore, more input is needed for the children to learn the basic elements of the English language. For example, through songs, rhymes, basic classroom instructions, greetings etc., children are able to familiarise themselves with the English language, making them more comfortable in the process of acquiring it.

In line with the programme Sarana Ibubapa introduced by the Ministry of Education, parents also came and helped to run the show. Those who volunteered were Mr & Mrs Ong Boo Siong 王文雄(海豹肢残障激励讲师), Ms Mak Su Yin 邱宇晨妈妈 , Mr Tan Hock Seng 陈福盛 (云顶阿米努丁学院讲师). Mr & Mrs Ong taught the children a motivational song named “Proud of You”. Mr Ong, whose daughter studies in our school, is a handicapped motivational speaker who inspires children to appreciate life and study hard. Meanwhile, Ms Mak introduced a form of musical learning for the children by singing and dancing to enhance their listening ability. Lastly, Mr Tan played the guitar and sang with the children whilst playing the Parachute game and London Bridge. All the songs and games are designed to test the children’s listening skills and improve their understanding towards the English language as a whole.
